Otsonny!! It was nice waking up to sonny's VA stream this morning! It's good to see him back at it since he hasn't done one in a while, even if there weren't really any "gimmicks" this time it was good just getting to hear his impressions again. He kicked things off with a number of tongue twisters, both jp and en... actually those took up quite a bit of the stream. It was fun, he was really giggly as he stumbled through some of them and it was cute when he'd laugh in a very juvenile manner over the mixups certain lines were supposed to cause. He played around a lot with the jp ones too... he's really a child sometimes. It was also nice to see he hasn't forgotten about uirouuri; in fact, he recited the whole thing again. I don't think he was working on it much offstream but I'd say there was an improvement overall, though by the end he was still rambling which was kind of funny, it's like when you're running down a hill and you start to lose control of your own legs. Afterwards he also did some warmups and a few different lines he came prepared with, including charles zi britannia's famous speech from code geass which was... very well executed actually, great job. He seems to be pretty good at these longer monologues, when will he do the major's speech from hellsing? He also pulled up a number of entries from last year's stream with the google form which was pretty cool! Shit, has it already been a year? In the end this was a fun little stream, his jp VA is still great as ever and I look forward to more.
It was fun to end my Friday night with sonny as well, and it's great to see him finally getting around to SF6. He's been looking for a new fighting game to sink time into for a while and he seems to have clicked with this one, even if it's taking him some time to adjust to the six-button layout. After showing up with one of the unhealthiest breakfasts I've ever heard of, he decided to hop in and try the new world tour. That... unfortunately did not go as planned, though at least the character creation was pretty hilarious. SF6 gives you a lot of freedom with the sliders and sonny found that extremely amusing, from giving himself popeye arms to turning himself into a ball of light. He tried to get the proportions decently accurate until he got fed up fiddling with it, and promptly hit randomize until his avatar became something that vaguely resembled a j-rock band member. Normally I love all sonnys but uh... I'm not so sure about this one. We got past the tutorial and met Bosch but sadly the game completely shit itself once they stepped out into the city. PP slideshow, lagging stream, fun stuff. Sonny blamed his PC, and maybe he did have too much shit open but his specs are great and world tour mode appears to be optimized poorly compared to the rest of the game so I don't think it's entirely his fault. Shit sucks, hopefully he can mess around with the settings off-stream and get it playable. Luckily, online was available and perfectly functional; he hopped right into a custom lobby with Ken and people were pretty quick to line up. Sonny versus viewers is always a fun time, he was getting his ass beat for the first few matches (understandable), though he started winning some once he warmed up a bit. Decent variety in opponents too, gotta learn early what MUs you hate most. It was always funny when he'd get cornered by a marisa or zangief and just get fucking pummeled or command grabbed to death. He was learning though! I'm not super familiar with all the terminology yet so it's hard for me to analyze his gameplay but he was slowly learning to counter certain things as time went on, like blanka ball spam. I also do have to praise the netcode, there were a number of two bar andys from across the globe in the room but it didn't really cause any issues (at least not visibly). Gives me a little more confidence to join next time... The rounds in this game usually went pretty quick so he got through a lot of matches, as such it's hard to pick stand-out ones. That being said, the diamond JP he played against a couple times was crazy, that character is fucking unfair when played right god i hate zoners. Luckily sonny just seemed impressed by his menacing walk, flashy moves and sugita voice rather than annoyed with the relentless onslaut of psycho power. That'll come later if he goes into ranked, obviously. Overall, it was a fun stream, I'm glad sonny's enjoying the game and wants to keep playing. SF6 is trying damn hard to bring new players in and if some of the names in the lobby were anything to go by (and myself I guess), it's definitely working. That definitely allows for more... insightful? discussion from chat which is nice. Combo trials have been fucking impossible for me so far but let's all improve together! Thanks for the fun streams sonny, was a great day for laughter and it's nice to see a fellow juri appreciator. Have fun with your work and see you soon at idk tomorrow if you don't gorilla tonight! o7
