Their relative %difference in sub count was the same right from the start when we only had the design to go for and knew nothing about the talents. Only exception is Mori & Ame, Ame was ahead, then Mori overtook her with her debut and back to back music releases.
Design plays a much bigger role than people think.

Nana had a chat about Ayame's new costume.
It came out different from what she initially presented. She also talked briefly wanting to do some touch-ups on Ayame's main design on the same stream but Cover didn't allow it.

Shigure Ui also had the same talk.She sent so many proposals and revisions. I think that's what happened with Kiara. Huke probably got so many requests for revisions that he just relented to whatever they wanted

I see. It seems that Huke is the worst offender when it comes to adapting to client revisions, or his design just doesn't translate well as a vtuber avatar. Though I feel Kiara's design would improve a lot if it had the iconic Huke face.

Eh, if anything it's Kiara's fault for choosing Huke as her designer when she wanted a bubbly genki character with tons of bright colors, which is like the exact opposite of Huke's specialty.
His style and most other "stylized" artists don't transfer well to vtuber models though it's true. Even GYARI got shit for his work on Pikamee's newest outfit due to how fucked up the proportions are.
Making Kiara a more serious or edgy character like pic related could've worked. Alternatively they should've just gotten Kakage or Pochi to design her, they're both great at drawing onee-san type characters and could've made Kiara much more tolerable with a more curvy and more mature figure like Reine.

Each of those except maybe Kana and Rena work.
Nabi and Nacho are good friends
Kogane and Nanami have a similar personality, although Nanami seems a little more sleepy while Kogane is spunky
Uto and Luto are friends through twitter and talked many times to each other

Nabi/Nacho really need to at least learn eye shapes, I don't expect them to go into face shape or body shape territory but even just changing eyes goes a long way from helping copy paste syndrome

Donut and nacho collabed before but it will be fun if all three get together. I just wish that was possible for Nabi and her daughters. If you look closely you see that Nabi does have different eye shape and sizes for each of them. In anime art the one thing you don’t want to change is actually the eyes because the style of your artwork comes from said eyes. Changing it is the same as changing artstyle and how people identify certain artist. It also wouldn’t be a surprise to say the same people who got those models asked for Nabi and Nacho to make them look like that specifically cause they want to be easily identified and associated in some ways. Otherwise you get something like Phaseconnect where people are saying Nabi was an artist but nobody could tell which one it is, making it difficult for people to find the specific Nabiface they all want.
