Not just less merch, NO merch. Their booth is literally just an empty table. Idol has their priorities completely messed up. There's no point buying the main sponsorship when you have nothing to show for it, all it does is shine a light on your own mediocrity to non-fans while giving nothing back to the fans.

Even VReverie has a bit of merch there for their new girls. This is just inexcusable on Idol's part. At this point, it's obvious that E-Sekai was a fluke because everything else they have attempted has been botched to a retarded degree.

Home field advantage (important for sourcing and getting merch together), financing, a bit of luck. The only other truly NA-based corpo was Tsunderia, and Tsunderia really just was mis-timed for a lot of it (debuted English before the HoloEN boom, debuted guys before the Luxiem boom, etc.) and you get the strong sense they just ran out of capital.

None of the other companies are NA, so they'll have an uphill battle in terms of selling merch to NA customers (figuring out supply chains, shipping, and so forth).

I will also point out having the company and management being NA-based also gives a better sense of the reality "on the ground" - what NA fans are actually like and want; the management are Vtuber fans themselves, talk with others who are Vtuber fans, and are in general more in-touch with the North American anime fan reality. For idol in Israel, and the Japanese-based corpos like PRISM or Kawaii - the upper management isn't grounded in the same way.

It's more about the reality of startup conventions. They start of small with a low attendance, and as its reputation as a well organized event with a lot of amenities or attractions spreads through word of mouth and social media, more people will be compelled to attend.
