Wawa has been garbage for years now.
See, Wawa used to be an actual deli. You could go in and walk up to the counter and order quantities of sliced meats and cheeses that they'd cut for you just like a deli does. The rolls were made in the Amoroso's bakery in west philly, delivered fresh every morning. There was even a big wooden barrel of pickles that you'd examine like a tank full of lobster for the pick of the bunch (I had a friend who earned the nickname 'Pickles' by tripping into one of these and knocking it the fuck over).
They they expanded their menu hugely. No deli anymore, it's all premeasured, prepacked quantities, just like Subway. The rolls come parbaked from a factory in Vineland so Wawa can claim "We bake our own bread fresh in the store!" No, you don't, you just fucking don't. The rolls are fragile enough that as soon as vinegar hits them they turn into mush. Okay, now they also have hamburgers and mac and cheese and quesadillas and chili and chicken fingers and all this other shit that isn't a hoagie and it all. fucking. sucks.
Wawa food is garbage. So is Sheetz. The best that could be said about either of them is that they are better than Subway, but in a city where you can get an amazing fucking hoagie on almost every block that is faint praise indeed. The *only* reason to eat Wawa is that the bars have closed and it's the only thing open and you're going to eat your hoagie off the top of the trash can in the parking lot.
The only chain convenience store around here with decent food is Royal Farms, and that's because they pick one thing, fried chicken, and do it well.
