I don't get the totsu complaint. Why do you want that? My criteria for determining if she was phoning it in just to get past her birthday and move on to the concert is if she actually did a totsu. It's low effort slop that should be reserved for newcomers/kouhais.

Because she was ghosting her fanbase as punishment, hard to hype anything when you're doing that.
Besides, the MV was produced by Cover and the 3D stuff was kanauru skinwalking bullshit. It's not like those were really "her" projects.

Gura has been getting suspended by management the same as Sana and Ina with their radio silent "health" breaks. None of the other holoEN talents can say anything about what is really happening for contract reasons. This was the same reason that Ina had a limited birthday. Optimistic viewpoint is that no call ins from the rest of hololive means the fight with management is temporary. They expect all of the contract negotiations to get resolved in a few months.

IRyS at least liked her birthday tweet, but Kronii, Ame and Ina didn't seem to? I heard some people say Kronii has ISP problems and Ame apparently mentioned it on her show but still. Feels weird man. I just hope Gura can recover well because it's like she's cutting herself off from the rest of the company.

I would say it's a legitimate possible criterion for measuring engagement within the company.
Inviting people to call demonstrates a willingness to connect with extended holo family.
Coworkers accepting the invitation to call demonstrates their willingness to reciprocate, which can be seen as social cred.

Whether it's slop or not probably depends on individual taste. Good rapport during a call-in could be considered like a mini-collab. Middling rapport or no chemistry can happen, but there's at least a sense of maintaining polite relationship and public image.

When a talent gets suspended there are two ways management can handle that. Announce the suspension which makes it obvious they have a problem with their employer or create a fake excuse that puts all the responsibility on the vtuber. NijiEN and holoEN are not that different since they are both run by Japanese corpos.

Seems plausible. In Niji's case, management asked Zaion what she was going to tell her fans, leading her for a certain response. If Vesper was given the same ultimatum and refused, then they publicly oust him for it.
