I don't see the amount of people "into" vtubing moving much at all. Not trying to say it is dead or dying but that I think the hype has 100% died and it is now just normal content

Literally that vtubing is no longer special and is about as abnormal as a video essay on YT. I haven't seen or heard any waves within or without the community nor any popular outsider talking about it. Seems the hype has died to me

In the west? Of course. Nothing of note besides outfit reveals have happened with HoloEN recently. And HoloEN (or really I should say, Gura) is the literal beating heart of the Vtuber zeitgeist in the west.

With Corona on its way out it was only natural
Also most trends get a big shining moment, what matters is where they settle down after and how long
On that point, I'm pretty confident the concept of streaming with a virtual avatar is gonna stay for a long, long time, and take new forms.
There is really no reason to be surprised or worry at all.

Oh, I'm not worried about vtubing dying or anything. The corona is a good point though. I'm sure vtubing will be fine and will probably gain popularity once it's more accessible

Almost everyone who would watch vtubers has already heard about it, and some people who jumped into it earlier have fallen out of interest with the concept. There's also a lot more players in the western market than 6 months ago, with lots of indies and small company vtubers out there with their own little packs of loyal fans.
