>>52171624The current poverty rate sits at 18%. In the year 2000, it was between 25 to 35 percent. If the trend continues, the poverty rate would only be at 5 to 10 percent between 2030-2040.
Also, only a quarter of the current 18 percent is at 'eating pagpag'-tier, which is a phenomenon that mostly happens in the slums of Metro Manila, like the Tondo District.
So to answer your question, no, not all Filipinos are poor. They are poor if you compare them to people of other, more developed nations, but amongst ourselves it's not really the case. Of course, wealth inequality still exists, and the current problem with inflation complicates things for the middle class. But this country is not the poverty-ridden hellhole some people (within and without the country) perceive it to be. It's a mediocre country with a weak currency, and the currency is weak because the country sells fuck all outside of coconuts, semi-conductors, and workers that send back sweet, sweet remittance money.
Not too good, but not too bad either. Part of the reason why people look for better-paying jobs abroad is because they want more money beyond basic survival, which the current economy can provide but that's it.
