Have stunted the potential of vtubing in the west, maybe permanently

Because of this boring fuck of a company being the market leader, the popular perception of vtubing in the EN world is absurdly narrow when it really shouldn't be like that. Think about it, this should be an extension of anime in the medium of content creation with a bunch of different genres and countless types of unique content. But because of Hololive, people think CGDCT is the only viable genre. Sure, there's attempts at other genres within that like comedy, romance here and there, and straight up softcore porn on the twitch side, but it all largely comes down to getting invested in the lives of complete strangers in a way that forgoes entertainment, usually romantically. This gets reinforced even more by clips being primarily horny or romantic. It's also why there's this perception that the dominant gender of the audience always needs to be opposite the chuuba (or gay), with sometimes a creator's gender demographic ratio literally flipping after they become one despite there being no change in content. Well I'm sick of it. I don't give a shit about CGDCT and never have. K-on is boring as fuck, Imas or any other idol property that isn't oshi no ko is boring as fuck, give me shounen shit any day of the week, something that there is currently ZERO representatives of on the English side of vtubing in both personality and character design (outside of maybe Kenji, but he's bad for other reasons). What attracted me to this hobby was anime people acting like real-ass people while maintaining a level of absurdism, kind of like what Harvey Birdman is to Hanna Barbera characters. I never wanted to fuck or fall in love with any of them. And if I couldn't get people sticking to kayfabe, I'd at least want an extension of the stuff I already watch like Oneyplays, Jon-era Game Grumps, Vinesauce, or Jerma, but without the open or passive disdain of people that enjoy Japanese media. I've kind of gotten that with Bettel, but the fanbase is exactly what I described before; full of fans that are actually in love with/want to rape him. I still watch him, but it's tiring to always have to consider these caveats that doesn't exist outside of vtubing (at least not to the same extent). None of this shit would have happened and we'd actually have variety if Nijisanji wasn't a trainwreck and got popular in the west first before "female chuuba appeal to man, male chuuba appeal to woman" became the law of the land.
