Do what you already enjoy, all the better if what you like is something that isn't already being done by other chuubas. There's plenty of gaming vtuber streams, so trying something else could work. Honestly the debatebro vtuber space hasn't really been touched yet, or even reviews or analysis style content. You don't necessarily need to be someone that mainly streams. If you're dead set on streaming games try to play something that's not already commonly played by streamers, not just vtubers. As a content creator you're competing with everyone else, just primarily other vtubers.
As for character/kayfabe, a little goes a long way. Subtle references and call backs are nice, but many people will cringe at overdoing it. Err on the side of underselling the RP aspect.
