Fighting games have an extremely low survival rate in the attention spans of gamers. Add on to the fact that it's essentially a small fighting game and people just jumped onto it for the gimmick and the flavour of the month bonus, and it was always going to end up this way. I mean, just look at how Multiverses was handled. You can't string your fighting game audience along, unless you're one of the big names, or you risk swiftly falling into irrelevancy.

HoloCure is mostly retard-friendly and its genre still has some popularity (but a bunch of people still got filtered by Stage 2).

Nothing went wrong. It's the lull between updates. There's still 100-200 people playing at any given time, so anyone wanting to do multiplayer shouldn't have a problem. When the next update comes out you'll see the player count explode for a few weeks again, then settle down to somewhere a little higher than the current range.

Multiverses was actually a bad game and many smash bros clones forget to study what makes the smash bros formula good. Nothing can save a fighting game with bad hitboxes.

What killed Idol Showdown is that it's an indie game and doesn't attract the pros at all, who make the fighting game living. Go tell a normie to train and study each hitstun of it's favourite character. He would be rather looking at streams anyway.

That was my main issue with the game as well. I couldn't figure out what identity the game was trying to give itself. It wasn't as anime as BlazBlue but it also wasn't as grounded like street fighter. Maybe this is just my underdeveloped perspective, but I couldn't find anything unique about the game other than it being about Hololive. At least it was free.

Imo, the game could've been relevant for way longer if they'd gave it 1 more year of developpement time and put ranked match in it.
The fact that it was as much as a broken mess on release made it be the "Kusoge vtuber game" in the fgc's mind.
The game never had proper QA and it shows. But yeah ultimately it would've become a 200 aps discord fighter too just maybe in 8 months instead of 3

Fighting games are niche to begin with and this one themed around a niche interest. Add to the fact that while somewhat impressive for free to play and indie devs, it's complete kusoge and utterly unbalanced, there's no chance for any long term lifespan. it's a fighting game + SF6 came + it was broken.
i'm not even shit talking, they did really well with it. but vs fighting games are really hard to do well and they fucked up basically everything on a technical gameplay level.
the genre is an insane world of wizard brains that have to craft every bit of animation combining with gameplay, to literally single frames of precision. 1 frame too much of hitstun here, 1 frame too few of blockstun there, and the game is broken.

To be fair nobody had any reason to expect SF6 to be as good as it was.
SF is SF, it's always gonna be divert a lot of attention just because of that, but what's remarkable about SF6 is that not only did it blow V out of the water, it BTFO every other game in the current market in nearly every area (outside of core gameplay since that's mostly personal preference). Even people from a lot of anime fighters drifted to SF6 because it just has some of the best currently available netplay, you can actually fucking play the game, and it plays good, and in hindsight a surprising amount of games weren't actually providing that.

Fighting games are dying because it's 2023 and yet all but the newest (as in released in the last 2 years) games have online implementation so terribly poor it borders on the unusable. Even if you disregard how that's going to thin out any playerbase in an age where people are used to online ranked ladders, it also meant that COVID restrictions ruining in-person tourneys absolutely decimated the scene for a year and some change.

It almost captured me to give it a bit more but they made stupid decisions in early dev stages. balance is wack and the gameplay doesn't offer much outside of 'let's make it focused on string based pressure that only mouth foaming anime fg tards would like" and shipped it out.

I'm not expecting an 'honest footsie' game but it's gameplay identity is forever lost wanting to be one or the other and that's what killed it.
I think this game is only worth checking out on the occasional character updates, whenever that happens
