He gets pretty good numbers in vtuber form, but his IRL streams pull way more viewers. Having a good vtuber model is definitely a buff for female vtubers and maybe a minor buff for males, but men mostly just have to rely on being funny, entertaining, and doing interesting things if they want to grow. Some of the biggest male fleshstreamers like Mizkif, asmongold, moonmoon, and Lirik are very popular despite not being super attractive. Male vtubers simply have to be at least if not more entertaining than their flesh counterparts if they want to compete.
