ESL here and here are my 2cents
Language learning is a big mimicking act, you learn a word and assign it to the meaning in your own language, you do that enough till you can form sentences, by this point, people think they are becoming fluent, usually at this time the person will be able to learn new words and concepts that they do not know in their own language. However the person is still talking strange to a native speaker, this is when, without realizing it, the ESL will start mimicking a native, and will absorb the native's way of speaking (slang, cadence, accent, etc)
This is how you learn any language.
Now why Kiara thinks her English skills are degrading. IF, and that is a big IF, you have a good English teacher, that drills basic to advanced grammar into you, using standard pronunciation. you will have a better grasp of the English language than your average American/brit/Aussie who never cared about the language they speak (hence why Kiara, the only ESL in Myth won the English skills thing they did)
It's the difference between studying a language for real as a teen/adult, versus learning the basics as a kid and never touching the subject ever again. BUT as I said, it is all a mimicking act, even if you learned the language in the most perfectly standardized way with no regionalisms what so ever with a strong focus on grammar to the point you would ace an English Ba course with max grades in the English Language in an English speaking university (and a good uni too), you will still end up mimicking other people speaking the same language (English)
And if you were paying attention to this unnecessary long as post, the same happens to your mother language too, if you go to a different place that speaks the same language as you but with a heavy accent/manerism, you will eventually start talking in that accent/manerism.
tl;dr Kiara is interacting with 'muricans way too much and now realized she is slowly talking more and more like one
