You can't just directly translate from most languages to another languages because they have different word orders and dialects that vary wildly. Then there's shit like pro-drop and other heavy context languages, or pseudo-context languages (which English belongs to with colloquial language)
Shit's a mess.
AI translation isn't there yet though, mainly because none of the current models have been trained on well formatted translated data, or language learning materials.
If you fed something like GPT4 / Character AI entire language courses it would probably pick it up instantly.
