>>54551304I'm another traditional Vietnamese, not that other dude, and let me chime in. The thing to understand about Vietnam is that it's counted as both a South East Asian culture, and as an East Asian culture depending on the context it's in. We're part of the sinosphere when it comes to history, but we're part of the SEA regions economically, there're a ton of divides like this. As a result, Vietnamese are basically entirely a mixed race in regards to international relationships. There's a lot to unpack here, but the important thing to understand is that Vietnam is simultaneously extremely racist, but also extremely open adaptive.
Vietnamese history is actually ridiculously rad and bloody, but I won't get into the details. What we need to know about this is that Vietnam has a super long history of getting subjugated by other cultures, and then throwing ridiculously bloody rebellions or wars against them, and then at the end, deciding to shake hands with them, call it a good scrap, and keep a bunch of the customs and laws they introduced that we were fighting to get rid of it in the first place because we decided it was a good idea afterwards.
Traditional Vietnamese don't keep much of an honor culture unlike other East Asian countries, so we're not expected to keep grudges either. People getting mad about Lunar New Years are basically all younger generation people insecure about being Vietnamese trying to establish their identity. Most Vietnamese from older generations actually did in fact, grow up calling it Chinese New Years.
That said, Bao is still a terrible fucking person and a raging dramaqueen bitch regardless. But to set the record straight, this ain't fucking shit.
