Taking a trivial amount as "rent" or "board" helps teach your child not to treat 100% of your paycheck as disposable income. Combine it with teaching them to save money and they'll grow to be financially independent.
Encouraging your child to get a more financially secure job (be it as well as or instead of) or to upskill so they can find a better job can be done with their best interests in mind, but shitting on their current job that they're happy doing is just vile.
