I started reading with the creation myth, Tales Before the Flood and Gilgamesh, then read the greeks, and only then I started reading medieval, renaissance and more modern shit
Same for games, I grew up with PS3-era shit, but to appreciate the medium more, I learned how to emulate and started with NES, and played games in different genres until I reached modern games, now I play whatever I want, sometimes a SEGA games, sometimes some fortnite, sometimes a PS2 classic, sometimes I replay SH1, or play a fotm game that just came out
