See L4D2 where they ran around meleeing zombies like maniacs or the EDF stream where they just ran around like a maniac with a rocket launcher destroying more property than bugs.
Look at them as the Scooby Doo and Shaggy of Advent, 90% of the time they're just uselessly running around being the comic relief until they're needed for something or shit gets real.
