>>56480716She is you stupid mutts who don’t know a thing about european history. Austrians are German, there has been a giant retcon after WW2 agreed upon by all austrian parties, from reactionaries to communists, to completely distance themselves from Germany because muh nazis, and it would be very convenient to be labeled a victim of nazi germany to excuse themselves and evade a lot of their own war criminals from being prosecuted. There is no reason to claim austrians aren’t Germans except for the topic being so sensitive because of Hitler. It’s almost funny how artificial that line is drawn, especially when Austro-bavarians exist as a single subgroup of germans, and Austrians still found a way to gaslight historians into portraying them as not germans. This sentiment eventually stopped in the 80s when Austria did not consider itself a victim of the nazis anymore which they obviously weren’t, but by that time since post-WW2, the educational board has already indoctrinated it deeply into austrians that they aren’t actually germans, which should make no sense to anyone who knows their history and culture but it stuck.
It’s also hilarious how Germans and French people would probably sooner unite into one country under the EU growing closer before Germany and Austria simply out of an autistic aversion of anything that could resemble the nazis even though austria joining Germany was only logical and only forbidden after WW1 to not give Germany any territory at all, even if it would’ve been right.
TL;DR: Austrians are a subculture of Germans
