It's a good game, I still fire that up for some matches from time to time, when I have 10 to 20 minutes to kill.

both games are well made and i enjoyed both.
i think holocure is just more accessible and thus has more longevity. idol showdown is nerfed because it's a fighting game so it's harder to get into than a VS clone plus the average player won't play it because of elitism or VTUBERS CRINGE RUMAO.

The real issue with Idol Showdown is that the game isn't beginner friendly, it requires you to actually play with a strategy, and the artstyle sucks. Homo's are nothing since thats relegated to a shopkeeper, but how the hell do you justify some random ass indie doing the countdown and "LETS FIGHT" stuff? And the roster in general just feels wrong. No Subaru/Miko/Marine/Noel/Aqua, but Aki/Coco/Sora/Botan just makes no sense.

That's one of the biggest problems Idol Showdown has. It's a perfect time capsule of 2020 and the devs instead of adding a more varied selection of members they went with just those they liked and somehow the game ended up with a roster that didn't had a single EN or Sankisei member (until the most recent patch that is). A game made by western devs who had to go after JP translators a few months before release had only 3 English speaking members and they are all assists.

You dont play korone, you get the style: "endurance streamer= shoto" or " high aka = grappler" and you pick whatever skin you want for that character
That way you can include everyone without having to make individual fighters, just sprites.
I mean ryu and ken were carbon copies of each other what is stopping indie fighters to make a full duplicated roster

It boils down to, Fighting games are a niche compared to the recent trend of vampire survivor like games, the fgc tends to minmax a game to the point where anyone entering as late as a month later gets mogged until they drop it (unless you're a fgc person yourself, but then you probably played it near release.) and lastly as popular as vtubers and hololive are, they are still a niche to some degree in entertainment, so a niche within a niche that faded quickly from FOTM game was to be expected.

The issue with fighting games is that the bulk of the content is external (fighting other players) and very repetitive at that, which makes it pretty niche, Holocure's content on the other hand, is mostly self contained and it varies enough to extend the experience (not to mention how easy it is for the devs to update)

Idol Showdown is fine but it's not fair to compare it to Holocure. Holocure is a casual game that anybody can pick up and play. Fighting games are hard and you actually have to put serious time into them to get good. They have very little casual appeal.

Also Idol Showdown really should have had some EN members since it's mostly being played by those in the "west". I feel that is a big oversight.

Pretty much this, I had a hell of a time getting into Hisoutensoku as my first and main fighting game, and its only because of how welcoming the community around it is that I didn't end up dropping it.
