A lot of indie vtubers probably fail out because their designs are way over convoluted. You know what I mean? There's just too much to look at.
Gura was probably the winner for HoloEN 1 because her design was really simple. Just a loli shark. The others have much more complicated shit going on. If you make something simple, but add a trait or two to make it stand out, i.e. bits of multicolored hair or a really unique looking accessory, it'll stick out in people's brains more.
T. Artist who was spent a lot of time designing characters. A lot of indie vtubers are painful for me to look at. The cute character is what draws people in, the personality makes them stay. Most people DO judge books by their cover, after all. Presentation is key, but if your brain doesn't know what it's supposed to be looking at, they're gonna move on.
