A big part of intelligence is resolving and dismissing contradictions as a matter of course, even looking ahead sometimes, because they interfere with getting to workable conclusions, even if it's just wasting time
So there's the lower band of intelligence where one's mind doesn't do these kinds of things so they just run headfirst into those kinds of concepts and scenarios, there's really smart people who have the bandwidth to generate and entertain those lines of thought, and then there's the middle band where a lot of opportunities for humor get discarded instinctively because it's already recognized from the outset that they don't 'make sense'
