Having to participate in a late capitalistic system while stuck in a country that's poorer than Colombia and Chile combined will quickly drive someone insane, hence why the Philippines has the world's highest rates of schizophrenia diagnosis. A lot of these people can't leave and so they fester and because the country is even more xenophobic and nationalistic than SEA. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy where mental health declines linearly with the economy and affects every sector of society.
