>>56816849VTubing derives from anime, and if you follow anime trends, it's VERY easy to see why the audience ends up being what it is.
Female-only anime have a wide range of appeal to both males and females, stuff like Asobi Asobase, K-On, Bocchi the Rock etc. can be enjoyed by any audience type.
Male oriented female character archetypes are also ever present in the anime world - all the x-deres (tsundere, kuudere, yandere etc.), lolis, goth lolis, big tiddy oneesans, mommies etc.
These archetypes are present in pretty much every single anime, although they tend to be more prevalent in anime that has male characters for the girl to fawn over, like romcoms, or anime that has romantic/sexual subplots.
Every single one of these archetypes can be translated to VTubing because they consist of a body type + a personality type. Something that a VTuber debut will be able to easily sell to the audience. The character design also usually tells you some part of the girl's personality, which is why model/voice/personality mismatches can easily kill a chuuba if there's no "gap moe" appeal.
Male audiences are also generally discouraged from being "horny on main" so to speak, lest they be labelled degenerates, so there will be some amount of restraint from male audiences when lusting over the girls.
And because they're VTubers, and therefore "real" to some extent (compared to just being anime characters) so when certain lines are drawn, the audience tends to respect it (although they will - and are encouraged to - continue what they're doing in places that the chuuba themselves can't see).
Meanwhile, let's check out male-only anime -
> Touken ranbu> Ensemble stars> Free> Tsurune> Yuuri on IceSee a pattern here? It's all stuff oriented towards women. No straight man would watch these type of shows, the appeal just isn't there.
There ARE male-only shows with male appeal, these tend to be shounen series or sports series. Stuff like Kimetsu no Yaiba, Haikyuu, JJK or Kuroko no Basuke.
And even then, such shows don't have romantic subplots or somewhat fleshed out girls that are romantic interests, their lewds tend to skew towards the yaoi side e.g. Haikyuu or Kuroko.
Males watch these shows for the plot development and the competition aspect. Neither of which can be easily translated to VTubing.
Females watch these shows for the design, voice and sex appeal of the boys, either for themselves or other boys in the show.
You can already see what would happen when a male VTuber makes his debut. He has to sell his brand to the audience with just his voice and personality - stuff that appeals more to women. Males that appeal to both audiences at the same time also have a particular personality type - a charismatic larger than life persona that males aspire to be, or a funny bro you can joke around with.
All the various other tropes related to male anime characters cannot be pushed without alienating the straight male audience - who are 90% of mainstream chuuba viewers.
tl;dr: Male VTubing is fundamentally broken because most male anime characters cannot be translated into the medium of VTubing which doesn't have a story or plot.
