They needed a functioning mama going forward for continued support hence the redesign; it wasn't just on a whim and seemed to be necessary unlike with the other guy which seems a very superficial facelift kek, aka unnecessary change.
There's probably some contractual/ip shit involved hence why they couldn't just let someone just take over from his previous designer without a complete redo by the new artist.
