Vtubers combine some of that culture with waifus, and having an anime avatar let's you keep your private life completely separated (outside of dox). In this situation the fanbase falls in love with the avatar, with the character, and only require the character to remain pure (if the vtuber baits GFE, otherwise who cares). Of course if there is some huge dox/accidental reveal/vtuber ruining it for themselves by admitting to IRL relationship, then it will affect the character too, but in the end most people just want their fantasy on the screen remain intact, they can ignore whatever takes place outside of that.
The problem is some vtubers don't understand that and feel the need to double dip with male collabs, which is a problem if you rely on GFE.
