unironically the truest thing I've heard about these units.
UMISEA feels so cringe and soulless, it boils all the members down to one gimmick and doesn't give them an inch of wiggle room. To me gura always feels particularly cringe and unnatural in UMISEA songs
HOLOTORI's video is eye-catching, unique, trilingual, and a lot more natural. I think it just boils down to having more mass-appeal than UMISEA.

Exactly. Also everyone in Holotori are very sociable Mumei excluded but she does ok when she's with people she's already met. Umisea has the language barrier and 3/5 of them are socially retarded to some degree.

I'm not surprised at this point. I legitimately don't get why she has so much social anxiety though. From what I've put together from other members' comments, she's actually quite beautiful and she seems to understand how to talk with others. Weird parent-induced autism perhaps?

Honestly its kinda true, she worked to get in managements good graces without being able to go look at my numbers. But the real advantage is most of them seem to have pushed for it in some way. Lui was really fighting for it too which surprised Kiara. With the Japan trips we got multiple off collabs of different pairs. They pretty clearly all like each other and want this to be a successful thing. Fans see and respond. People cope Umisea wasn't always mandated, but it starting as something big probably hurt it in the long run. Nobody has had to fight for it so none of it feels special. Umisea will get more, Holotori has to prove people want more.

Being in the EN channel with people that only know hololive for the memes is what made them relevant. In the JP channel people just go and search for their oshi and don't bother to look half of the videos.

It's because the songs are produced by JP individuals who don't know enough English to understand why the west likes Gura. But management says they gotta have the lyrics done by Tuesday so they work with what they know: catchphrases like a and domo same desu.
Now compare it to the Blue Horizon MV, which is written and directed by people who watch Gura and as a result is chock-full of little references and Gura loves it. It's night and day.

Honestly for how half assed Holotori was put together I have to give major props for Kiara to making it absolutely work.
I think Kiara understanding what the audience wants was key here. The dance group videos were pretty fun even though on an individual level I like umisea better.

I think what happened with Umisea was less to do with corporate mandated because it probably wasn't, I think they all thought it would be a good idea but I think due to how big everyone is they played it safe. Gura and Ina are just happy to contribute to whatever they get asked and Marine ended up being too reserved in typical Japanese fashion. Really massive props to Kiara

Having a build up is very important. And holotori build up was quite long, starting with subaru gaslight, first collab between her and kiara,then slowly reine, mumei, Lui and finaly intern nerissa joined.

The unit was approved in February so it might've actually been the Jap guy who greenlit the unit (which is why its on the HoloEN channel instead of JP).
