Bad lighting can make or break any 3D scene.
See the issues of people trying to mod models in to games, or taking characters from other games without taking the proper lighting info for models and the normals for the models get royally raped to the point they don't look like the models from said game.
I remember some screencap of Marie from DOA without any proper lighting and she looked like some garbage from the Unreal Engine 3 gritty gloom and doom days.
