Let's talk about clip channel.
Hate it or love it, they are the one responsible for making vtuber popular in the first place. Not just Hololive, but vtubing in general.
Without clip channel, no one is going to go out of their way to search and watch 3 hours stream of someone larping as anime. The viral clip is what makes them search for it in the first place and I am pretty sure 99% of /vt/ also get their first taste of vtuber from clips as well.
Yet knowing this importance... why leave it to someone else? What stopped Hololive or any company for that matter to create a dedicated clip channel to showcase stream highlight?
If a Seanig in his mudhut can make 100+ clip a day, why a billion dollar company has no resource to do so as well? Even if it generate no profit, the marketing value is still there. Nowadays, only the popular one is the one that always get clipped. If they make their own clip channel, they can make clips of the less popular member to basically advertise their channel.
So what stopped them doing this?
