It's never straight forward to assess whether or not something is more transactional or because they care. When a doctor or therapist makes extra time or cries, or makes some other waver of norms, then they probably care even though they're getting paid. When someone makes a point to read supas then the interaction is almost always purely transactional. The difference is that the show of attention and caring either hinges on the transaction or it doesn't. A doctor showing empathy doesn't mean they're getting more business, you're going to need to see a doctor anyway, whether they're nice or a jerk. For a streamer, it's all fake. It's not just vtubers, but even with flesh streamers that accept donations from people without much money to fund their expensive mansions. Viewers have found themselves in situations where they felt like they were letting down their bro or their woman if they didn't pay big. They also noticed that eventually the streamer would respond more if the payment was bigger and usually not respond if there was no payment. So they kept on paying more until it lead to financial problems. Many zoomers probably haven't heard the adage that you can't buy friendship (or love).

It isn't bad to be a streamer or a vtuber as a business. It just isn't about caring. If you predicate her being good on caring about you without any profit motive, then by that logic she's bad. But having a profit motive isn't bad, it's just part of the entertainment business. Saying she also responds to grey names is not evidence that there is not a profit motive or special profit-motivated treatment for big spenders. It's not bad, but it's also not a caring relationship.

If you can't understand that nuance then you'll probably be one of the ones screeching about betrayal eventually.

Far as I know, Youtube takes the hit on that. You might be thinking of Paypal donations. You can ruin someone's life by charging those back. Send them $10k, then charge it back months later after they spent most of it. Not only will they be on the line for the donation amount but also Paypal fees. And Paypal will almost always side with the buyer/donator. There was big string of those last year with some Krampus guy hitting high profile streamers. Note that this is fraud and absolutely illegal.
