>E-sports are actually counter productive>to the chill cute girl idol vibe that actually best represents Hololive as a whole.Vtubers are just streamers with an avatar, of course a vtuber can lean well into e-sports and be successful, doing something he's good at and his audience enjoys.
But that doesn't align with most of Hololive, that's not the sort of creators they are or the audiences they have and e-sports don't match well their content.
Not saying they shouldn't be allowed to do that, they can do it. They have been able to do it all along.
This whole shit isn't about giving them the chance to do it, it's about forcing other girls into it, it's about framing it all under direct corporate control. It's about making them stop doing the things they love and their audience enjoys and making them do this shit instead.
HLZNTL doesn't give Hololive new viable options, it takes them away and gives them a burden to carry.
E-sports are stressful, a big time commitment and not everyone has the capacity to be good at them. Hololive is for the most part about cute girls who sing and do silly things, a few are good at a game or two. But it's not an e-sports centric company.
There are e-sport vtuber companies out there and even Nijisanji has a much stronger presence on that area.
What Cover is doing now is just trying to force Hololive to play catch up with that and brute force it into that niche.
This kind of shit doesn't work in any type of context, executives just don't fucking get it, they can't just force shit to happen.
Funny that this is related to e-sports since they have been the bane of so many attempts, many games that desperately try to force themselves to be e-sports and fail at it. Because ongoing patches don't make an e-sport, big prize pools don't make an e-sport. Marketing doesn't make an e-sport.
People being interested in playing the game, having fun, wanting to be good and most importantly having fun watching others play those games make an e-sport.
Cover is just joining a long list of companies that banked on the e-sport horse got nothing in return.
