Matrix 2 and 3 both lean way, WAY too hard on early 2000s CGI and they look terrible as a result, while the original stands up to the test of time because it relied heavily on traditional effects and only used CGI lightly. It only has that really bad greenscreen helicopter scene near the end.
2's plot runs you in circles accomplishing nothing until the literal deus ex machina ending, and pulls that infuriating shit where it justifies its own existence by retconning the resolution of the first movie, undermining its narrative integrity for the sake of existing.
And the 3rd one is just an absolute mess.
If you watched them as a kid you might've been taken in by the CGI but watching it as an adult, you'll realize just how fucking ugly the sequels were, both in their storyboarding and in their use of CGI.
