The main issue with both sets of compilation movies is that they tend to warp time a space between the bullet point plot summary of the TV series. The MSG movies are basically "more canon" than the TV series (unless you really care about Doan for some reason). There's way more complaints about A New Translation, but like before it's 95% important bullet points with 5% retcon salt.
Again, not ideal for full understanding, but good enough if you wanted a different jumping-in point (ie: Hathaway, the new thing).
