>>57800778>>57800790>>57800800this is absolutely not true, the reason why reddit/millenial writing is bad is because it is too self-aware and tonally dissonant with what is happening e.g. characters making fourth wall breaking one-liners even while serious shit is happening. This is not the case with Valve/Portal's writing - while it is sardonic and witty, it's still grounded inside its own universe and never references anything outside of it or breaks character/tone.
Modern millenial writing would be if GLaDOS had randomly referenced some current event shit that she couldn't possibly know about in-universe, or if she constantly lampshaded her own character e.g. after being passive aggressive/evil suddenly stopping and going 'haha I'm doing the passive aggressive thing again, that's a thing I do!'
Millenial writing also beats jokes into the ground which Portal never does e.g. the cake thing is never brought up again in Portal 2 as a running gag and it has all its own jokes/references instead of carrying on the same ones from the first game (the only exception is the companion cube which is specifically brought back just to subvert it by going 'actually we have loads of them they don't even matter this time around')
