The music video features an anime girl and that fantastical virtual world shit. It's prime gosling bait. Knowing that it was meant to be a song to a dude doesn't make me change the way I or most people think of the song, because we all recognize the girl from Shelter's MV while most of us don't about Porter's brother.
Besides, if he was OK with Shelter's MV (which is itself a masterpiece of animated MVs), he presumably is fine if most people interpret it in their own way. And it's a great gosling song to be honest desu
