Burning the coral is a standard default FROM ending. It's like linking the fire in soul games. You're just repeating the cycle, delaying the inevitable. Coral will survive, it will grow again, some poor sap will be forced to make a hard choice again.
Choosing to release the coral is the right choice. Trying to destroy it simply out of pure fear(of unknown, of foreign, of uncontrollable) is honestly pathetic.
