>>58357316>what is the point in even trying in the first place? What's the point of anything? To experience something new and have a better understanding of the world around you. It can also be beneficial to test things out in a controlled environment, instead of being tempted to try it out in the spur of the moment. For example with smoking, most people start because they want to be social with others and they feel pressured into participating. If you've already tried on your own and found it disgusting (like most non-smokers do), then you already know what it's all about and can more easily say no.
>The "give it a try" idea is straight up dumb.Only if you have zero self-control. If you have autism and think life is about minmaxing your choices to live the absolute longest or be the most safe, then that's fair enough, but most people try to balance their lives around both fun and safety.
>most of the time someone tells you to try something like this is because they want you to join them in the addictionWhy would they want that? Seems like a spurious theory to me. Most smokers don't think that hard about these things, they offer a smoke either because they think they're being nice by sharing or want you to make an informed decision.
I'm not saying everyone should try smoking of course. I'm just saying that there are legitimate reasons why people might want to try something new out, even if they don't plan on making it a habit.
