That's more often how things work, and dedicating over half your life just for a chance at a slightly happier death isn't worth ruining your actual life for. Even if your last 2-3 years are worse, do you really want to sacrifice 20-30 of your healthiest and most productive years trying to salvage those last few miserable sick ones filled with suffering?
