Most people in these genres are desperate for new people especially in smaller communities because more players makes a huge difference. A community that shits on newcomers and is hostile like that just dies in the FGC, what actually happens is casuals come in and complain constantly and throw people's advice back in their face, insisting game/strategy is 'cheap' or whatever which is not going to make you any friends.
