I watch both twitch and youtube and both have their value. It’s easier to find streamers on twitch by default because of their better filters, however youtube has the potential for better discoverability with shorts/ads. While twitch and youtube have shitty moderation, youtube’s moderation is consistent in comparison to twitch where the rules seem to be enforced at random. Twitch has a much better tagging system making it significantly easier to find what you’re looking for, but obviously the tags aren’t always being used correctly. Youtube has vods and its also easier to organize multiple channels for corpos. I think with a few UI and quality of life improvements youtube could be better than twitch in general, but I think it needs some time.

No it doesn't. Youtube is fucking godawful for discoverability. That's literally the reason why you use Twitch; so you can actually be found. Youtube is the superior platform for corporate vtubers and anyone with an established audience already. Twitch is where small streamers go because even small streamers are easily discovered.

The only way Youtube has better "potential" for discoverability is if you're going to gamble on making a viral hit and that's just fucking retarded.

I'm not entirely on a vtuber algorithm but even then I've only found clips of other vtubers on youtube and never live streams. If you're gonna be on youtube wouldn't it be best to only upload clips of yourself and then stream on twitch? The problem with youtube is that they don't separate their live feed from videos, I know they tried it with youtube gaming but that failed.

Thats sort of what the shorts are for, they tend to be good advertising that twitch kinda lacks. Vtubers like Miori can owe a lot of their popularity to shorts of her singing hitting the algorithm and like 90% of small vtubers who get anywhere on youtube spam the shit out of shorts until they get at least reasonably popular. Its possible that you could just post twitch clips onto a youtube channel, and that may work for some, I tend to find it less interesting when I can’t actually find a vod that corresponds with the clip, that could be a me issue though. Youtube needs to step up its game in the UI department, it’s difficult to find anything specific when you’re just sorting for live.

That's wrong on so many levels. Degeneracy exists on Twitch, true, but it's not the default. Many streamers have decent chat experiences, even if they're a 4view. If you let degeneracy happen in you chat with all sorts of custom emotes enabled and copypastas not banned on sight, it will eventually turn into a shithole, much like how the meidos here don't give a shit about rampart shitposting and a handful of schizos can ruin generals for months, turning it into a sty like you mentioned. There is no "Twitch culture". Each streamer has their own culture and the chat behaves differently based on what the streamer wants / allows. And since Twitch has actual moderation tools, they can cultivate that much easier.

The average age of a twitch stream viewer and youtube stream viewer is several years apart. This is why certain games are far more popular on twitch than on youtube. Both userbases are retarded but they're different kinds of retarded.
