Polka gets a genuine boost to her self esteem from getting all this love, and that's something she has said feels lacking in her day to day life. She also really wants to be an idol as she looks up to them quite a bit, so being able to achieve that dream through the support of her fans is yet another reason she cares about them. I think about like this: if it's not real, then she's gotta be playing one of the most convincing acts of someone in need for codependency in history while fooling (soon to be) millions of them and making mad cash with it. But I chose not to believe this (at least not completely) because it seems like a real pain to deal with and be really twisted in the head to begin with. Granted, I have little to zero self-esteem either and having someone I've never met until recently throwing me kisses at me and nibbling on my ear while getting love confessions is a new experience that I've never knew I wanted.
I still can't accept it fully, but I'm learning to appreciate it with every stream of her I'm watching.

That actually brings up an interesting comparison between the twos codependence, Rushia's codependence is romantic love in nature (mostly from the fact she'll never have her brother). Which is why she's considered GFE queen.

Meanwhile with Polka her form of codependence doesn't feel romantic in nature but a true love like a person loves their family, supporting each other. There are no lewd feelings (maybe you guys, but not polka herself), just love.

I don't know about that. It's hard to describe crying into your microphone, giving it kisses and saying "I love you" over and over as anything but romantic.

The thing is, from what I can tell, Polka has this insecurity about being good enough for her gachikoi. With familial love you don't really have that element of insecurity and fear, you know your family loves you because well, they're family. Polka on the other hand, chooses to love her fans and they choose to love her.

I don't know, it can be hard to describe what it is, and I often ask myself if it's emotionally healthy for me to be this invested in her, as it's hard to love someone romantically without totally losing yourself to it.

If you believe it's just an act but with high production value then it's like most any other vtuber but with a twist. Most girls run their channels as a career / business first and it's generally very tong and cheek or just fan servicey. This is what we are use to and expect.

But if you believe that Polka's words are truthful at face value and it's not a act but more of a cry for help and genuine concern then it's something else out of the ordinary vtuber and chat relationship.

I think there is a misunderstanding regarding this situation. I think many anons here thinks Polka's "codependency" with her fanbase means that she cares/loves and thinks about them each individually, that the same way she gives the the GFE, they give her the BFE, when that's obviously wrong. Like they think things like "oh she can't live without ME!", "oh she totally loves ME!", etc. when she would probably get disgusted if she saw one of her fans in person.
Polka's "codependency" is just your regular women needs of attention, social acceptance and validation, and in her case in particular, thinking that being a entertainer is what gives her life meaning.
tldr: Polka, me and (You) should all take our meds, take a shower, hit the weights, get a clue and touch grass

I don’t hold any delusions about her loving me individually, I was only questioning the genuineness of her love for the collective (as someone who onlt membered her recently). It’s hard to know because I don’t watch “twitch thots” but I’ve always assumed that there are lots of women that fake this kind of thing for money or vapid attention.

But the anons in this thread make some good points. If she was in it for the money, there’s a lot of things she’d be doing differently, like more openly showing her vulnerable side in non-mengen content and advertising her sad clown stuff regularly. The way it is, probably 95% of Polka subscribers have no idea about this stuff. It’s hard to estimate but I’d wager her members can’t exceed more than maybe 10,000 people.

Rich is relative. You can have little money but no expenses so your are technically rich because you would not need much money to achieve your goals. You can also have lots of money but expenses or debts exceeds your income, so your still poor. Polka obviously is some what rich since she keeps expenses low by living in a small attic with a roommate, but at the same time makes enough money to pay for several covers song releases a month plus paying for all the rights to the karaoke songs she streams.

But that interview was in early 2019, she still had a full year run before graduation. Although I agree 1M is more of a goal and she probably did not get there in just 1 year. But if she really lives like the way she describes her surroundings, her expenses can't be much more than the average anons.
