It has been explained ad-nauseum. There's no "single" reason but the biggest is that Luxiem and management bended over backwards to make them the faces of the branch, then it bit them in the ass because all of Luxiem are unprofessional idiots who either told all of their female fans off, or are sexpests who drove female unicorns off, or said stupid shit (insulting fat women), or being in the line of fire of the rest of the women fans leaving because of the shitty treatment from the male livers

The favoritism towards Luxiem sucks especially since not only were there several generations of girls beforehand that had a more well established fanbase, but even in terms of guys, Noctyx was a better generation in every single way.

- Chase off 90% of the original fans who were there for the girls
- Homos draw in crazy ass fans
- Girl’s growth stops completely
- Girls become used for collabs with the guys
- Fujos get sick of Vox and move on to someone else
- Now the Homos have no viewers either

I’d say they were easily considered a close 2nd in popularity.
There was a lot of crossover of fans too.

Nijisanji has fallen so far that I’d legitimately put Phase Connect and Idol Corp ahead of them as #2 and #3 in the EN market place.
Ninisanji maybe is still top 5.

Livestreaming as a whole peaked in 2021 and has stagnated ever since. Meanwhile other vtubers continue to grow in the space meaning that it has become more competitive. One of NijiEN's strong point was being a high visibility alternative to HoloEN, but now you have other options. Also people just turned away from NijiEN due to the reasons others have posted already. So a combination of external changes to the livestreaming market and internal mismanagement meant NijiEN hasn't been able to properly capitalize their earlier success.

Streaming isn’t getting less popular. The internet isn’t getting less popular.
Vtubing is growing actually.

It’s just not 2 companies getting all of the growth now. Lots of mid and small sized corpos, and lots of indies.
To say vtubing has peaked is one of the dumbest misunderstandings of the internet that gets repeated here.

Yeah.
Despite people on Reddit and Twitter screaming that there were already enough EN members during the Tempiss arc, there really weren’t.
The only ones who actually streamed consistently were IRyS, Kiara and Fauna.

Advent streams every single day. And they caused other girls to stream more too.
