I get the impression it was mandated by management and she doesn't really know what to do with it, but is trying to her best to appease them.
IMO a mascot character is just there to sell merch and sometimes lean on for skits. Fauna can handle streams on her own so the latter isn't really relevant. I do agree that something like Friend or even Bloop is more iconic though.
