Then, when something DOES get announced, there's no central figure to build up hype for it in the waiting period. You just get occasional reminders from members saying "hey that thing's still happening remember to participate in it" and a shill tweet from the social media intern.
Putting a face to management and having someone who can consistently and reliably communicate the state of events within the branch is vital. Without it, stuff generally just FEELS aimless, even if it's actually not.
