>>6058282The fame of the vast majority of hololivers was built more on coincidences and other members rather than their own strength. Then because its a brand people just latched on for tribal purposes. People like Noel and Aki would have died out long ago otherwise.
What really launched hololive was Korone making it big (for some reason) and more importantly Fubuki going viral a few times which drew people into hololive in the first place. And Fubuki was only able to do that largely due to Sora being one of the bigger ones of the 3rd wave of vtubers. Sora wasn't really able to do more than getting that niche following, but it was enough to provide Fubuki a stage for her memes. And things just snowballed from there with brand loyalty and other bullshit, then covid happened and people had too much free time and hololive just happened to be the big brand at the time people were looking for something to latch onto.
While Gura is currently big, she's mostly just riding from hololive's peak popularity during the pandemic wave.
That's not to belittle anyone's work really, because they all stream a ton and work as hard as any other streamers. But their hard work in building their own popularity isn't really everyone's equal hard work, it was really Fubuki and Sora getting a snowball started and everyone else getting lucky enough to get wrapped up in it.
I'm a vtuber historian and you can trust me.
