Base game? Depends of your gamestyle. Same with DLC civs.
In a specific gamestyle? Cavalry with Franks, Gurjaras or Lithuanians. Infantry for Romans, Sicilians or Incas. Archers (infantry): Britons, Ethiopians and Mayans. Siege goes for Ethiopians again, Bohemians and Mongols. Archer (horse arhcers): Mongols again, Tatars, Cumans and Magyars. General specialists? Chinese, Spanish, Hindustanis and Vikings. Wanna do Navy in maps with water? Malay, Vikings, Dravidians or Portuguses maybe.

This game has 43 civilizations. The worst one has 45% win rate. The best one has 54% win rate. You won't find more balanced game, I'm afraid. The only OP things are some new civs in first 1-3 months after release until they get tuned.

Kronii had the best early game out of everyone but melted when she faced Kiara.
Moona is surprisingly underwhelming, I guess the playing field has finally been leveled.
Fauna is doing very good but she's basically alone in her team, Anya just exists.

The backbone is the same, the difference is made by civ bonuses and unique units. Also whichever parts of the tech tree are available varies from civ to civ.

That's the neat part, there isn't a good balance, just one that's average.
Anon I don't think you get it. All the civs have a different focus tree, different unique units and more importantly, different bonuses for both the player and the team.
Do you think the Chinese who have more villagers at start but less wood and food in exchange play the same as Sicilians who have longer lasting farms and their land units (except siege) take -33% less bonus damage? Or the Aztecs, Mayans and Incas who don't have cavalry (unless you get a little to creative with monks...) and instead have Eagle Warriors who are a similar equivalent to the Light Cavalry and Hussars.

It had 13 civs when it launched but it was popular and got an expansion and then it was revitalized and got more expansions and DLCs. However dev team is very active and they release balance patches every month or two and make sure civs powerlevels aren't far apart.

Kiara played the game perfectly normally and had fun. Fauna played a cheese strat.
Everyone else was just playing a farm sim.

Well, without Kiara nothing would have ever happened. Kiara dealt devestating blows to Kronii, Moona, and made Anya pretty much useless for 15 minutes. Unfortunately Kiara's biggest downfall was not paying attention to chat that was spamming her to upgrade and build more pikemen which would have easily countered Fauna's mass elephant strategy.

There were some heavy camels mixed in there from time to time as well. Persian war elephants are the easiest units to counter in the whole game, but they are fully capable of stomping people who don't know the game. She recognized this and used it to win. Fauna's economy was also extremely good to support the whole strategy.

Her absurd fucking murderboner is what lost her the game ultimately. While she was spending all that time and resources on trying to completely rout a player who was never that much of a threat to begin with, Fauna could just sit back and amass her army undistrubed. Even when Fauna was harassing Reine and Reine told Kiara as much, she was still going "REINE SEND ALL YOUR UNITS! MURDER! KILL! RAAAWWHGHRT!"

The elephants beat literally any unit 1v1. The counters are basically spamming halbs and monks, but if someone has pop capped on elephants and a handful of trebs/cbows the monks converting one or two elephants wont help much and you will lose 60 halbs to 60 elephants, and then 60 halbs to 50 elphants etc. and by the time you've built enough waves to actually defeat the elephants the trebs should have destroyed your town.

The reason you don't see elephants in 1v1 games is that the Persian player dies on the way to maxing out on fully upgraded elite war elephants but they're pretty meta on teams arena or blackforrest.

It's a tough call. Lumi has a better understanding of the game mechanics so she'll get stronger the more the game goes on, but she's rather slow with the early eco. It would still go to Lumi I would say, she just has a lot more experience.

What actually happened is Kiara lost a cavalry heavy army to Fauna's war elephants in Anya's base where she had a longer reinforcing distance, and from that point onward Kiara was lagging behind in total army size because she had worse economy and unlike Fauna she had to remake her entire army from scratch. She could've held out much longer if she had econ'd up during the pause before Fauna attacked Reine.

That's how AoE2 works. The typical 'counter' units of skirmishers and spearmen are individually weaker than the unit they counter, but they only cost food and wood to produce which are effectively infinite in a typical match. The units they counter cost gold, a very limited resource, and are expensive on top of that. War Elephants are especially expensive costing 170 food and 85 gold, by comparison spearmen only cost 35 food and 25 wood. In fact, the persian war elephant is the single most expensive unique unit in the game. Counter units, being effectively infinite, naturally shouldn't be able to solo the resource limited unit they counter. To prove that, camels are a counter unit to knights, but they also cost gold. As such a camel can 1v1 a knight and win.

Well, shit. Huge cultural difference then. Dota 2 has comeback mechanics that incentivizes teams to fight back. Only when the base has been breached with the towers inside it down, would teams surrender (in pro tourneys). The difference here being most fights in Dota 2 takes place outside of the base, so teams go a long time without surrendering. Perhaps I judged Kiara's and Reine's saltiness too harshly and too hastily.

Attacking Kronii was the right thing to do, but after clearing her up, she should have attacked Fauna with Reina tagging along, which Reina is actually proved to be decent at doing. A good support player.

RTS typically don't have comeback mechanics, however defender's advantage is a thing due to faster reinforcements. Big fight can decide a game but often there will be multiple battles before the game is over - strategy choice impacts this heavily. There are many matches where we have action all over since first minutes and it goes on for a long time back and forth and there are some where there is long build up leading to one decisive fight after which everything is clear.
One of main deciding factors to this are gold and stone, valuable resources, being limited - so after your big army dies or your castles get destroyed, it's hard to rebuild them. Team games can alleviate this through trade generating infinite gold but none of the girls set up a proper trade route.

For what it's worth, I can tell you i stopped watching football and other sports almost entirely around eight years ago because I prefer casted games of aoe2 pro players, they're a lot more exciting.

Moona instructed Kroni to point her trade cararan to her marketplace. They were actually the leaders at doing that.
It was one of the few good things Moona did right as the "experienced" player.

On one hand, her obsession was the only thing that motivated her to get this "good".

Frankly neither can Fauna, she actually went against Anya's recommendation and went into Kronii's base with her full army, even though a scout would have sufficed.

What Fauna should have done instead was to immediately attack Reine's base after she confirmed Kiara's troops were far away at Moona's base.

Technically speaking what Fauna and Kronii did was actual "macroing".
None of these girls know how to micro their armies, they are at the level where they don't even know what "A move" is.

And then there is the coach level that was what Anya was doing. Coaching Fauna, but Fauna ultimately make the decision to reveal her elephants prematurely.

The same shit would have happened, but Anya and Kronii team would win because Kronii wouldn't be building the wonder instead she would just keep macro up her economy and slowly build her giga army as Anya instruct her to.
