As for the others, they have their own reasons for choosing to reinvent themselves instead of joining up with their old indie selves.
It's not unheard of for indies to go through a total rebrand even while staying entirely independent. Sometimes you just want to do that. And it's great if you can do that while still keeping the same accounts so your audience doesn't get lost.
Owning your model/IP is important because it's legacy. It's your career.
For example, let's say Pekora graduated tomorrow.
That's four years of work--streams, event appearances, music, etc.--that she no longer has claim to. She will never earn money from those VODs or videos again. She can't even say she's the one who did it.
That's fucked.
