>>60622551It's a mixed bag with Asian languages actually. With Chinese and Japanese, they can vaguely roughly understand each other through the characters they write, but they would never be mutually intelligible when speaking. With something like Filipino and Cebuano which Purin (the vtuber in the OP) can speak, there are a lot more words that are lost or just have a completely different meaning but are sort of similar too. Purin is a native Cebuano speaker and can understand the grammatical syntax of Filipino, even speak some. But she needs to use Google Translate for a lot of the basic Filipino words that she wants to say, because the words being used can be quite different. She did do a Tagalog only challenge before and it was quite fun to watch if you can understand.
Other Asian languages like Malay and Indonesian are completely mutually intelligible, they can understand each other very well.
