i knew a girl who: worked hard at her job, owned her own house by her mid 20s, had a partner who made good money in software development, and were planning on getting married. every day this girl would call her mother (every day!) and every day she would nearly be in tears because the mother would just berate her for not being able to afford a second house and for her boyfriend being ugly and not a doctor.
and yet, she kept calling her every day. last i heard she moved back to her hometown to be closer to her parents.
