>>61714798I suggest making those weekly or biweekly. Shiggers who won't read a novella in a week won't read it in a month either. It's not like it's mandatory so you can skip one if you want.
The language really didn’t age. The prose just doesn’t work. I had to force myself to continue reading on more than one occasion. I thought that it was just a sign of its age, but there are some buttery smooth novels from the same time period.
Same goes for horror. “Oho! The children are singing psalms and the local goth girl has a stroke. Uhu! A girl went to bed in a room, but woke up in another room that was closed from the outside.” Riveting.
Thematically it’s okay. I assume it’s obvious shallow stuff for people who like vampire media, but as a pleb I mostly consumed modern interpretations that boil down to big tits in tight corsets or small tits in goth lolita dresses. The idea of vampires as abusive obsessive lovers, who pine for their target’s affection and acceptance but can never have it, was not exactly new, but other stories never really made me think about it I guess.
The characters are by far the best part. Very vivid, very iconic. You could transfer the entire cast into a modern novel without changing a thing.
Overall, not the best story I have ever read, but it made me want to revisit some better written gothic fiction.
