Yes it is real, people will say "cope", but the main reason was because there was a lot of overlap. Which paints the bigger issue NijiEN has which is not being able to gain a new audience ever since Iluna. Livers have to share their audience even more.

Even by putting the numbers aside, the big problem that I see here is the lack of balance between offer and demand in NijiEN. The dudes in the last generation at least had a ground to build a fanbase (kind of), and that shows that there are enough fujos to keep a couple of new dudes still afloat even nowadays.
The girls though, they simply do not have any ground to build a fanbase on. Ever since the debut of Advent and the comeback of Hololive as pure and simple leaders of the female market in the English scene, the other corpos are left with crumbs of audience, and even Idol or PC have been greatly affected. I have no idea what the plan of Niji's management was with these debuts, but it was fucking crap.

Niji's been in a rough ditch and stigmatized for ages.
She's new, which yes you think might come with a debut buff, but like the other anon said, vtubing is very saturated, everyone has a dozen oshis already, so anyone new has to really be novel to even be worth checking out. I barely touched holoX, and I haven't tuned to any of the gen7 ones nor half of advent because too much saturation.
Also, doing a storytelling stream, or really any non-gaming non-karaoke stream, which is also a big debuff to even stablished channels.
